CarteNav Receives Investment from Lockheed Martin to Support Product Development

Investment of $1.4 million USD will support CarteNav's AIMS-ISR® product development for integration with airborne surveillance radars and enhanced data analysis.

CarteNav Solutions Inc. today announced that it has received a strategic investment from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics of $1.4 million USD under the Government of Canada's Industrial and Regional Benefits (IRB) Investment Framework program.

"The funding provided by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics under the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development's IRB Investment Framework program will be used to augment the ability of our flagship product, AIMS-ISR®, to integrate with and enhance leading airborne surveillance radars," said Paul Evans, CarteNav's president.

The majority of the product development activity is expected to be completed over a period of two years and will result in the hiring of additional highly skilled software engineers and other technical personnel.

Mr. Marshall began his career as an instructor in the British Army, specializing in weapons and tactics. After joining the Police in 1990 he had various roles until in 2004, he qualified as a Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) and a year later became a Tactical Flight Training Officer (TFTO).

More recently, Mr. Marshall became instrumental in the development and delivery of a new airborne mission system working closely with various teams and stakeholders, whilst also being responsible for the design and delivery of the integration course, which received national accreditation. Mr. Marshall retired from his previous role at the start of September.

NPAS have earmarked almost a third of their fleet for an upgrade, with a total of seven aircraft benefitting from increased mission endurance and an upgraded mission system.

Delivery of the first upgraded aircraft to NPAS was formally announced at the HeliTech International trade show in London, in October 2015. A period of intense testing and training followed, before the aircraft could be classed as operational in late February this year.

More than 400 exhibitors representing companies from around the world are participating in this year's expo at the Cunard Centre.

Military, security and aerospace firms have products and services on display. Most companies are hoping to become a link in the supply chain for a major government procurement project.

About one-quarter of the floor space at the expo is devoted to small meeting rooms, booked quietly in advance, in which negotiations take place between high-ranking business executives.

The appointment follows the decision by Vice Admiral (ret'd) Lynn Mason to retire after nearly eight years as CarteNav's CEO.

Admiral Mason joined CarteNav as CEO after serving on an advisory board to the company. He is a Commander of the Order of Military Merit and has been awarded an honorary doctorate of laws from Dalhousie University and another of military science from the Royal Military College of Canada.

Mr. Evans has been with CarteNav since 2010 in the capacity of Chief Operating Officer, a position in which he had responsibility for business development, marketing, and sales. Mr. Evans has a wealth of software technology experience including prior leadership roles at a large international information technology and consulting company. Mr. Evans is currently a member of the board of the Aerospace and Defence Industry Association of Nova Scotia, and holds a Master of Computer Science degree from Dalhousie University and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University.
