The AVMS is a low-cost innovation that provides global tracking of vessels fitted with AIS transponders. AVMS is configurable to meet customer requirements and includes a back-end server to store and visualize the collected data.
Remote unit reporting can be configured by the central tracking station based upon various attributes, including reporting interval, vessel speed, geographical co-ordinates and others. Operators can create exclusion zones or special reporting areas. If any remote unit enters that area its programming with be automatically changed to the pre-set parameters for that zone. AVMS has been successfully deployed on ships, aircraft, offshore buoys and oil rigs.
With the sensor grid fusing an unlimited number of contacts for the command and control system, it is a significant contribution to Maritime Domain Awareness. Additionally, it has the ability to control the transmission period of all remote units to support SAR or close surveillance of Vessels of Interest. The system also has a built-in Iridium satellite rear link, or can simply use the vessel or aircraft’s existing communications link ashore. The AVMS central tracking station is a PC based server system that is configured to receive the collected AIS data from multiple AVMS remote stations, and display the information on a GIS mapping system in a stand-alone configuration. Alternately, the AVMS tracking station is capable of also forwarding the AIS information in OTHGold format to populate any Recognized Maritime Picture (RMP) using GCCS standards. The server has a secure web interface that allows customers to remotely monitor the AIS data, as well as configure the AVMS remote stations.
